2. Firo-B

Dimensions of FIRO –B

The FIRO-B tool measures your interpersonal needs in three areas.

INCLUSION [I]

The need for Inclusion relates to forming new relationships and associating with others; it determines the extent of contact and prominence that a person seeks.

Descriptors include:

• belonging

• Involvement

• Participation

• Recognition

• Distinction

CONTROL [C]

The need for Control relates to decision making, influence, and persuasion between people; it determines the extent of power or dominance that a person seeks.

Descriptors include:

• Power

• Authority

• Influence

• Responsibility

• Consistency

AFFECTION [A]

The need for Affection relates to emotional ties and warm connections between people; it determines the extent of closeness that a person seeks.

Descriptors include:

• Personal ties

• Consensus

• Sensitivity

• Support

• Openness

For each of the three interpersonal needs—Inclusion, Control, and Affection—the

FIRO-B instrument also provides a measure of how much each need is Expressed or Wanted by you.

EXPRESSED [e]

The extent to which you will initiate the behavior.

WANTED [w]

The extent to which you want or will accept that behavior from others.

The FIRO-B assessment is used in a wide variety of applications including:

3. MBTI

EXTRAVERT TYPES: Prefers to live in contact with people and things. Breadth in interest is their logo / forte.

INTROVERT TYPES: Prefers to be more self contained and work things out personally. Depth of concentration is their logo / forte.

SENSING TYPES : Take information by senses, attends details, solve problems in standard ways, patient with details, precise in their work, distrust creativity, work hard to reach conclusion, emphasize action, urgency, bottom line results. Reliance on facts is their logo.

INTUITIVE TYPES: Like to solve new problems, dislike routine, perceive problems in totality, can consider several alternatives simultaneously, imaginative and futuristic, enjoy mind testing games. Grasp of possibilities is their logo / forte.

FEELING TYPES: Emphasize human aspects, more process oriented, enjoy pleasing people and avoid conflicts. Warmth and sympathy is their logo.

THINKING TYPES: Logical and analytical in problem solving and search for additional information in a logical manner. Logic / analysis is their logo.

JUDGING TYPES: Puts emphasis on orders through reaching decisions and resolving issues. Organization is their logo/ forte.

PERCEIVING TYPES: Puts emphasis on gathering information and obtaining as much data as possible. Adaptability is their logo /forte.
