Course Outline

Unit 1: Counseling Process & Skills

By the end of this unit the learner should be able to: • To have full realize the significance of counseling. • Differentiate between guidance and counseling. • Realize the importance of ethics in the counseling profession. • To have full knowledge about the process of counseling. • To set realistic goals for counseling in consideration of social and contextual mediation. • To use the knowledge of necessary skills required to facilitate the process of counseling.

Unit 2: Tools and Techniques in Counseling

By the end of this unit the learner should be able to: • Differentiate between tools and techniques and counseling • Develop skills to identify and select suitable tools • Develop skills to select appropriate techniques of counseling. • Prepare tools useful for counseling purpose. • Administer and interpret tests/tool for counseling.

Unit 3: Introduction to disability

By the end of this unit the learner should be able to: • Develop the skills to identify the special needs of the children. • Determine ways of enhancing learning among these children • Develop the skill to determine ways of career counseling

Unit 4: Crisis situations and counseling

By the end of this unit the learner should be able to: • Explain and describe the need of counseling in specific situations. • Explain, describe and realize the diversity issues impacting the roles of a counsellor.
